Generative Language Model ChatGPT and Its Role in Scientific Research in Islamic Economics
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This research examines the potential role of the generative language model ChatGPT-4 in scientific research within the field of Islamic economics. The growing influence of this model across various aspects of life necessitates an exploration of its contribution to the development and enhancement of scientific research in Islamic economics. To achieve the objectives of this research, the researcher adopted a descriptive-analytical methodology, evaluating ChatGPT-4’s responses and assessing their effectiveness in different aspects of scientific research. The study begins with an overview of the ChatGPT-4 model, including its operational mechanisms, key features, and ethical considerations in scientific research. It then assesses the model’s effectiveness in Islamic economics research by identifying specific research aspects, posing relevant questions, and evaluating the accuracy and usefulness of the generated responses. The study concludes that ChatGPT-4 is beneficial in certain areas, such as suggesting research topics, distinguishing Islamic economics as a discipline, drafting research proposals, summarizing studies, and providing translations. However, the research emphasizes the need to evaluate and verify all information generated by the model. On the other hand, ChatGPT-4 is found to be less effective in areas such as collecting scientific materials, assessing the novelty and originality of research topics, evaluating research contributions, and identifying relevant previous studies or literature. Moreover, the research asserts that, in its current state, ChatGPT-4 cannot replace the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for producing high-quality research. Therefore, human intervention remains essential when using AI tools in scientific research.
