The Role of Acoustic Design in Enhancing Sustainability: The Case of Iraqi Secondary Schools
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Acoustic comfort is vital to effective teaching and learning, yet it remains underexplored in sustainable design, particularly in Iraqi schools. This study examines how sustainable materials can enhance classroom acoustics, using a case study from a prominent Iraqi secondary school. Through audio analysis with the Odeon program, various material changes were tested, measuring their impact on sound intensity. Results reveal that modifying ceiling finishes with acoustic panels most effectively reduces noise, supporting sustainable design principles. These findings offer practical recommendations for improving educational environments with minimal energy uses.
