Self‐Circulating Mud's Lubrication Application on Overlength Pipe Jacking Construction
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT Pipe jacking technology is widely used in underground pipeline projects due to its minimal surface disruption and strong adaptability. This study focuses on the application of self‐circulating slurry and slag discharge technology in the ultra‐long‐distance pipe jacking for the Baisha Lake Reservoir diversion channel in Chengdu. The research investigates how optimizing thixotropic slurry improves friction reduction during the jacking process. Initial results show that slurry injection reduces friction by about 33%, but as the jacking length increases, the effect strengthens, reaching over 52%. Further optimization of the thixotropic slurry enhanced its lubrication performance, achieving a maximum friction reduction of 62.3%. This optimization not only improved lubrication but also reduced the burden on hydraulic equipment, preventing excessive energy consumption and wear. By enhancing the slurry's thixotropy, a more stable lubrication film was formed between the pipeline and surrounding soil, significantly lowering friction. The findings highlight that optimized thixotropic slurry improves both the efficiency and safety of the pipe jacking process, providing valuable insights for similar projects.
