Increasing the efficiency of logistical support for troops in operational-strategic control operations
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article explores the role of military logistics as a fundamental component of the operational-strategic management system of the Armed Forces, particularly in the context of modern hybrid threats and rapidly evolving warfare environments. It argues that logistics is not a secondary or auxiliary function but a key factor influencing combat readiness, operational flexibility, and the sustainability of military actions. The analysis draws on both Ukrainian and international scholarly sources, notably the works of Martin van Creveld, Julian Thompson, and John Lynn, who emphasize the decisive impact of logistics on the course and outcome of armed conflicts throughout history. The study outlines the core components of an effective logistics system, including uninterrupted and stable supply chains, inter-service coordination, and risk management strategies. It presents a comparative analysis between traditional (centralized, rigid) and modern (decentralized, adaptive, technology-driven) models of logistics support, underlining the growing importance of digitalization, automation, and integration with civilian infrastructure. Special attention is given to the specific logistics needs of various branches of the Armed Forces, including ground forces, air forces, naval forces, and special operations forces, highlighting the necessity of customized logistics strategies. The article also presents a set of practical proposals aimed at transforming Ukraine’s logistics system to meet the demands of contemporary military operations. These include the development of unified digital logistics platforms, decentralization of supply hubs, enhanced civil-military cooperation, and comprehensive training programs for logistics personnel based on NATO standards. The paper also emphasizes the need for international collaboration in standardizing logistics procedures and documentation. The study concludes that a modern, flexible, and resilient logistics system is a critical precondition for maintaining operational effectiveness and ensuring Ukraine’s national defense capability under the current conditions of protracted conflict. Keywords: logistics, operational-strategic management, military supply, combat readiness, digitalization, decentralization, risk management, military effectiveness.
