Enhancing ultrasound applications through shell-less nanobubbles: A study on acoustic and optical properties
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Shell-less nanobubbles, characterized by high internal pressure, high stability, negatively charged surfaces, and a unique lifetime ranging from several weeks to months, have recently been widely applied in agriculture and industry. However, there has been limited research exploring their interactions with ultrasound. To investigate these interactions, this study used a claw-type pump nanobubble generator to produce nanobubbles and employed acoustic and optical methods to observe the state of nanobubbles under high-intensity ultrasound exposure. The results showed that the device could generate nanobubble solutions with an average particle size of 107 nm, a concentration of 1.94×109 particles/mL, a lifetime exceeding 1 week, and a zeta potential of -43.7 mV. Acoustic and optical observations revealed that NB solutions reduced the inertial cavitation threshold of the liquid from 26.5 MPa to 10.3 MPa. These findings may provide a potential approach to enhance the treatment efficiency of ultrasound histotripsy.
