Type: article
Abstract: Antibiotic resistance has become a global pandemic and one of the world's biggest concerns. The decreased antibiotic efficiency and increased bacterial antibiotic resistance have encouraged research on exploring new antibacterial as an alternative antibiotic. The discovery of new drugs from natural sources such as medicinal plants has proven to produce compounds that can be further developed to overcome infectious and other diseases. This study aimed to explore natural antibacterial agents as an alternative treatment for infectious diseases. Identification of metabolite compounds by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) method, antibacterial activity test using Kirby Bauer liquid dilution method with modified, then the mechanism of antibacterial action using a Spectrophotometer and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Based on LCMS analysis, black turmeric extract contains active compounds Quercetin-3-sulfate (flavonoids), Asarone (volatile oil), and Picrasidine K (alkaloid) as an antibacterial. The Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) in black turmeric ethanol extract against the growth of S. aureus occurred at a concentration of 500 ug/mL, S. pneumonia at a concentration of 125 ug/mL, and E. coli at a concentration of 125 ug/mL and P. aeruginosa at a concentration of 250 ug/mL. The results revealed that black turmeric extract has potential as an antibacterial against the cause of nosocomial infections.
