Abstract: EXPRESSION OF CONCERN: G.-J. Huang, J.-C. Liao, C.-S. Chiu, S.-S. Huang, T.-H. Lin, and J.-S. Deng, “ Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Aqueous Extract of Mesona procumbens in Experimental Mice,” Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture 92, no. 6 (2012): 1186-1193, https://doi.org/10.1002/jsfa.4682. This Expression of Concern is for the above article, published online on 01 December 2011 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), and has been issued by agreement between the journal Editors-in-Chief, Sandra Schmöckel and Andrew Waterhouse; Society of Chemical Industry; and John Wiley & Sons Ltd. A third party reported that images of the same tissue sample had been re-used, with the same experimental conditions indicated, in four other articles by many of the same authors (Huang, et al. 2011 [https://doi.org/10.1155/2011/895857]; Sheu et al. 2012 [https://doi.org/10.1016/j.foodchem.2011.09.140]; Huang et al. 2012 [https://doi.org/10.1016/j.fct.2012.01.041]; Chang et al. 2012: https://doi.org/10.1155/2012/595603]). An investigation by the publisher also discovered potential undeclared splicing of the western blot images in Figure 3A. The authors responded to an inquiry by the publisher, but did not provide original data that could be used to arrive at a definitive conclusion. This Expression of Concern has been agreed to because re-use of the same data from a tissue section across multiple publications and potential undeclared splicing calls into question the authenticity of the data and experiments presented in this article. The authors disagree with the Expression of Concern.
