Update on slowly progressive type 1 diabetes

Abstract: Slowly progressive type 1 diabetes (SPIDDM) is a subtype of type 1 diabetes in which endogenous insulin secretion gradually declines over time, eventually leading to a state of insulin dependence. The diagnostic criteria for SPIDDM were revised in Japan in 2023, with more strict guidelines. In addition, a statement regarding therapeutic interventions for suspected SPIDDM cases has been issued.
