Abstract: The expansion of agribusiness in the state of Tocantins has intensified land conflicts, especiallyin areas occupied by traditional communities, such as the Community Quilombola Morro deSão João. Through this approach, the general objective of this study was to analyze thecorrelation between the advance of agribusiness and quilombola resistance, evidencing thestrategies of territorial defense and sociocultural preservation adopted by the community, located in the municipality of Santa Rosa, Tocantins. Methodologically, the research ischaracterized as descriptive and bibliographic. The results indicate that the coexistence betweenagribusiness and the community is complex, given that the predominant development modeloften ignores the safeguarding of quilombola cultural, social and environmental values. Thus,it is essential to formulate policies that reconcile economic growth with the protection of theknowledge and sustainable practices of these populations
