Pemphigus Vulgaris Post-typhoid Fever: A Case Report and Therapeutic Perspectives
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare autoimmune disorder causing blisters affecting the skin and mucous membranes. This case study discusses the case of a 52-year-old male who developed PV following typhoid fever, presenting with painful fluid-filled lesions that progressed to erosions. The diagnosis was confirmed through a skin biopsy and immunofluorescence. Treatment with corticosteroids, intravenous antibiotics, and supportive care led to gradual improvement. This case underscores the importance of early diagnosis and highlights rituximab’s potential in reducing steroid dependency and improving outcomes. Timely intervention and evolving strategies are essential to enhance management and minimize complications of long-term steroid use.
