Abstract: The research focuses on the Chukchi Ecclesiastical Mission's efforts to Christianize the Chukchi people during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, utilizing materials from the Yakut Diocesan Gazette. The objective is to reconstruct the mission's activities as a significant historical entity within local history, highlighting the socio-cultural aspects of Christianization. It has been determined that the integration of the Chukchi Peninsula into Russian governance was a protracted process, marked by military conflicts and influenced by the region's natural, climatic, and cultural characteristics, which contributed to the enduring nature of Christianization. Furthermore, the diocesan press from this remote imperial region reflects the missionaries' ascetic commitment, encompassing extensive journeys to serve nomadic communities, as well as engaging in scientific, educational, and medical initiatives. The newspaper materials provide insights into the operations of the regional Orthodox Missionary Society and clarify the contentious issue of the Chukchi mission's church-administrative affiliation in the early 20th century, thereby underscoring the significance of diocesan publications for contemporary scholarly inquiry.
