Abstract: The article examines the reasons for the appeal of the modern scientific and political community to the theories of solidarity. Developed by the beginning of the twentieth century. they were antagonists to the liberal and revolutionary theories of that time. France was a kind of center of solidarity in this era. Various variants of it are being formulated here, including the concept of “legal solidarity”. One of the creators of the latter was Leon Duguit, a well-known French jurist and public figure. The ideas expressed by him were used in subsequent times by scientists and politicians who formulated the concept of a “socially oriented state”.
