Abstract: beneficial if McCormack would have composed an afterword (or even a full chapter) to help bring together many of the diverse voices not simply to have the final word, but to gesture toward how dialogue, discussion, and even debate can continue to flourish over the kenosis of Christ.A further criticism of the book is that a chapter should have been devoted to the rise of kenoticism in Germany and the United Kingdom in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, if only to help orient the reader to some of the names alluded to in other chapters (e.g.Thomasius and Forsyth). These criticisms aside, this text is a much needed and eminently helpful work for those who desire to listen to and engage with leading scholars who contend for what they believe to be the most important aspects of kenosis. As such, this book is tailored to people who have some academic experience in Christian theology, whether ministers, students and fellow scholars, and it would make a quite suitable text in advanced theology/Christology post-secondary courses.
