Anaerobic power output by position group in women's soccer players

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess anaerobic power output across different positional groups in women’s collegiate soccer to determine whether significant differences in power exist based on position. Thirty-two players participated in the modified Margaria Kalamen Test (MGK) and categorized by position groups. Results indicated no significant differences in anaerobic power between positions (Goalkeepers, Defenders, Midfielders, and Forwards), as all pairwise comparisons had p-values greater than 0.05. Although Goalkeepers and Forwards exhibited higher mean power values than Midfielders and Defenders, these differences were not statistically significant. The MGK test proved to be a reliable tool for measuring anaerobic power in collegiate soccer players, providing valuable insights for position-specific training. Future research with larger samples and more diverse testing methods is needed to explore the effects of positional training on anaerobic capacity in soccer players.
