Abstract: According to the Smith-Birch model, the damping capacity of ferromagnetic materials is determined by the value of their saturation magnetostriction and the average level of microstrain caused by defects of crystal structure. As the magnetic properties of the crystals are anisotropic, the saturation magnetostriction value of a coating of a ferromagnetic material exposed to cyclic loads can be influenced by its crystallographic structure. This work analyses the influence of axial-texture characteristics of the coating on saturation magnetostriction value in the case of a ferromagnetic material with a cubic structure. As found, at λ111 > λ110 ratio of magnetostriction coefficients, the maximal values of the coating saturation magnetostriction are achieved at the axial texture of <111> type and, in the case of crystals with λ111 < λ110, at the axial texture of <100> type.Experimental studies of the damping capacity of coatings of Co-20 wt.% Fe alloy, for which the magnetostriction coefficient λ111 > λ110, with single-component <111> and multicomponent <100> + + <110> + <111> axial textures under the conditions of bending vibrations show that damping capacity of a coating with single-component texture is higher than of that of a coating with a multicomponent texture. The obtained result is in satisfactory agreement with the ratio of their saturation magne-
