Advancing Transparency and DecisionMaking in Job Scheduling through Explainable Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Job scheduling is a critical component in various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology. Traditional scheduling algorithms often operate as "black boxes," providing limited insight into their decision-making processes. This lack of transparency can hinder trust and adoption, particularly in high-stakes environments. This paper explores the integration of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques into job scheduling systems to enhance transparency and improve decision-making. We present a comprehensive framework that leverages XAI to provide interpretable explanations for scheduling decisions, thereby enabling stakeholders to understand, trust, and optimize these systems. Our approach is validated through a series of case studies across different industries, demonstrating the practical benefits of XAI in job scheduling. The results indicate significant improvements in efficiency, resource utilization, and stakeholder trust, highlighting the transformative potential of XAI in job scheduling
