Abstract: In the 17th century, the operations of the Ambassadorial Chancery in Moscow (Russian: Посольский приказ) developed intensively. There, selected information from the European press was translated into Russian. The translations were intended for the Tsar and the representatives of the Russian aristocracy – the boyars. The news covered significant current affairs, mainly international politics, as they aimed to familiarise Russians with the situation in Europe. Interestingly, among the most important contents translated from foreign newspapers were reports on mirabilia – miraculous events or things and supernatural phenomena. The aim of this article is to present reports from the West about miracles, supernatural events and to determine the attitudes of the authors, translators, and contemporary audiences towards such information.
