Abstract: Mental health plays an essential role in general well-being and in promoting comprehensive health. In Brazil, mental disorders have become a major issue, affecting the quality of life of many individuals and generating significant impacts on the health system. The aim of this study was to characterize hospital admissions for mental and behavioral disorders in the state of Acre between 2014 and 2024, using data from DATASUS (Department of Information Technology of the Unified Health System). This is a cross-sectional and retrospective study. During the period analyzed, 15,074 hospitalizations were recorded. There was a gradual decline in the number of hospitalizations until 2021, followed by a partial recovery in subsequent years. Most hospitalizations occurred in young adults aged 20 to 39 years (53.2%), predominantly men (62%). Schizophrenia and related disorders were the most frequent diagnoses (36%), and 92% of hospitalizations were performed on an emergency basis. Most cases were discharged for outpatient treatment (99%), highlighting the need to strengthen the psychosocial care network and mental health prevention strategies. The study highlighted the prevalence of severe disorders and the predominance of emergency hospitalizations. The results reinforce the need to strengthen the psychosocial care network, invest in the prevention and promotion of mental health, and improve data recording to support more effective and inclusive public policies.
