Abstract: This work investigated the leaching characteristics of magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) in alkaline solution. Alkaline leaching tests were conducted on MKPC specimens according to the ANSI/ANS 16.1 test. Leachate compositions were determined using ICP-AES and cumulative concentrations, effective diffusion coefficients and leachability indices for Mg, K, P, and B were calculated from the data. X-ray diffraction/Rietveld (XRD) was used to analyze the phase composition changes of the MKPC surface layer after leaching. For all tested materials, the major elements Mg, K, P, and B showed limited leachability (leachability index ≥9) in an alkaline solution mimicking the internal waters of radioactive waste storage facilities.
