Type: article
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To explore the weight management experiences and needs of obese polycystic ovary syndrome patients of reproductive age in China. METHOD: Thirteen patients were recruited from a tertiary hospital in Sichuan province. Face-to-face structured interviews were conducted using a phenomenological approach, with data analyzed via Colaizzi seven-step method. RESULTS: Key weight management methods identified included medication, diet, exercise, and habit correction. Coping attitudes varied, with some patients exhibiting positive or negative responses. Experiences revealed short-term adherence to dietary control but difficulty maintaining exercise routines. Patients expressed a need for support from medical staff and family, as well as interest in medications and traditional Chinese medicine to aid weight loss. CONCLUSION: Insights into the weight management experiences and needs of obese PCOS patients can guide medical staff in addressing these challenges. Attention to patients' and families' emotional well-being during weight management is also crucial for effective intervention.
