Strategic Direct Printing for High‐Performance and Uniform Organic Thin‐Film Transistor Arrays

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The development of high‐performance, uniform organic thin‐film transistor (TFT) arrays is crucial for next‐generation flexible electronics. Here, a strategic direct‐printing approach combined with optimized printing conditions is presented to achieve highly uniform and scalable printed TFT arrays. Inkjet‐printed silver nanoparticle (AgNP) electrodes are optimized through rheological characterization, ensuring precise deposition using a 2.4 pL cartridge with tailored drop spacing and platen temperature for superior line stability. The hydrophobic bank patterning strategy precisely controlled the channel dimensions, facilitating reproducible organic semiconductor deposition. Additionally, a nanosecond pulsed laser‐assisted via‐hole process is implemented, enabling reliable interconnections between the top‐gate and source/drain electrodes via inkjet‐printed AgNP ink. As a result, a 12 × 12 printed transistor array with high electrical performances is successfully demonstrated, achieving a saturation mobility of 0.9 cm 2 ·V − ¹·s − ¹ and a relative standard deviation of 14.4%. The proposed fabrication strategy can offer a scalable, reproducible, and high‐performance solution for printed organic electronics, including display backplanes and sensor arrays.
