The United Kingdom in the Balkans: presence policy in the 21st century

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Modern British policy is characterized by skillful adaptation to changing conditions, flexibility and tactical maneuvering, which determines the success of the strategy of presence in the Balkans. This is achieved, among other things, with the help of manipulative technologies to shape public sentiment. The change in the balance of power in the region after Brexit did not affect the UK’s status as the main advocate of EU enlargement, but despite its official commitment to a single line with Brussels, London, which has parted ways with Brussels, is forming its own system of influence on the Balkan processes.
