Shared thoughts on shared intentionality

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: After a brief introduction, this paper unfolds in five parts. First, metaphysical Commitments. Here I discuss how metaphysical commitments have interfered with the understanding of shared intentionality. Second, we-subjects of all sorts. The wide variety of communities that are formed by shared intentionality. Third, temporality and history. The temporal spread of communities and we-subjects, and how they relate to history. Fourth, humanity. Can humanity ever be considered a shared community, or is it too broad? Does humanity have an ‘other?’ Fifth, some misgivings and some worries about shared intentionality.
