Type: article
Abstract: The current study's goal was to investigate the antidiabetic effects of Trigonella foenum-graecum seed extract using the streptozotocin-induced rat (STZ) model of diabetes mellitus (DM) in rats. Rats were given streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneally (I.P.) at a dose of 50 mg/kg. Use the serum glucose test to confirm that you have diabetes mellitus. The effects of oral Trigonella foenum-graecum seed extract (250 mg/kg b.w. and 500 mg/kg b.w.) and the standard drug Glibenclamide (0.5 mg/kg b.w. oral) were evaluated both acutely and subacutely in different sets of STZ-induced rats. Serum glucose levels were measured at 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 hours in the acute hypoglycemia research, and at 0, 7, and 14 days in the subacute hypoglycemic phase; at 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 days in the acute antidiabetic trial; and at 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 days in the subacute antidiabetic research. The administration of glibenclamide (0.5 mg/kg b.w. oral) and Trigonella foenum-graecum (TFG) seed extracts (250 mg/kg b.w. and 500 mg/kg b.w. oral) resulted in a significant decrease in serum glucose levels, while the hydro-alcoholic extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds extracts effectively reduced serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL levels while increasing HDL levels after a 7-day treatment period.
