Abstract: Until the year 1948, the joint union represented the unique source of cultural, social, and economic development for the villages in Vrancea County. The measurement of the joint union rights has become an essential reality after the last division of the lands in the mountains, the growth in the number of its members and the diminishing of the exploitation possibilities (that were endless up to 1910) being the key elements of all joint unions in Vrancea county. Many of these rights tend to be willingly mistaken in order to destroy the unity of the joint ownership and to access its resources. The community kept its rights thanks to the power of the members of the joint ownership that controlled both their internal organization and the relationships with the external people. In our scientific approach we study this communitarian institution, i. e. the joint ownership, mostly from the perspective of the rights given to its members.
