Abstract: The article considers the capabilities of spreadsheet processors in the context of developing students' analytical competency. It defines analytical competency and identifies its components (abstract-logical, critical, systemic, problematic, figurative, algorithmic, creative, associative, and reflexive). It considers the role of Olympiad tasks in the educational process as a means of developing analytical critical thinking, developing data handling skills, and the ability to make informed decisions. the author's tasks on the theme "Spreadsheet processors" are provided for conducting the Olympiad for both high school students and junior university students. It is concluded that developing students' analytical thinking is a complex problem that includes increasing the abstractness of thinking, developing logic, developing a creative approach to solving problems, etc.
