Effectiveness of Different Lighting Duration Programs on Performance in Broiler Chickens

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Proper lighting duration enhances production efficiency by influencing feeding behavior, metabolism, and health, contributing to food security. This study evaluates the effects of different lighting duration programs on performance in broiler chickens over a 3- period duration. Four treatment groups with different lighting durations were tested: P0 (24-hour lighting), P1 (18-hour lighting), Intermittent Lighting 1, and Intermittent Lighting 2. Controlled conditions were used, and production parameters were measured periodically. Data were analyzed using ANOVA. Results showed that P3 had the lowest mortality (1.54±0.10%), significantly lower than P0 (3.87±0.48%). P3 also had the lowest FCR (1.44±0.09) compared to P0 (1.88±0.05), indicating higher feed efficiency. The highest harvest tonnage was in P2 (51±0.95 tons) and P3 (50±0.12 tons), both outperforming P1 (37±2.79 tons). P3 had the highest performance index (406±9.91), significantly better than P0 (319±17.34). P-values for all parameters were highly significant (p<0.05). In conclusion, the P3 treatment effectively improves production performance by reducing mortality, increasing FCR efficiency, enhancing harvest tonnage, and improving the overall performance index. The P3 treatment is recommended for broiler chicken farming to achieve optimal production results and significantly contribute to food security.
