Study of additive manufacturing techniques for customized mechanical components

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Additive Manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing, has revolutionized the way mechanical components are designed, prototyped, and produced. This study investigates various AM techniques with a focus on their application in the customization of mechanical components. By comparing key technologies such as Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Stereolithography (SLA), and Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), the paper explores their effectiveness in terms of accuracy, material compatibility, surface finish, and mechanical properties. Case studies and experimental results are analyzed to determine the suitability of each technique for specific mechanical applications. The findings emphasize the growing relevance of AM in manufacturing highly complex, customized components with enhanced performance, reduced lead time, and cost savings, especially in aerospace, biomedical, and automotive sectors.
