Sustainable Development of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) for Alternative Fuel Use in Cement Factories
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa (ITP) aims to enhance energy efficiency by increasing the ratio of alternative fuel use, with a target of 42.00% by 2030. As of 2022, alternative fuel usage was at 18.13%, primarily sourced from Refused Derived Fuel (RDF), biomass and hazardous waste. This study reviews current policies, evaluates government regulations; assesses landfill potential for RDF supply. By projecting RDF demand and potential emissions reductions, we propose strategies to meet ITP’s alternative fuel goals. Results suggest that 30.06% alternative fuel use by 2024 would reduce emissions by 10%, demonstrating RDF’s role in sustainable energy management in cement production. The total value of economic potential (demand) for 10 years from 2020 to 2030 (projection) from the implementation of the optimistic scenario of IDR 11,580,302,750,625 requires a total of 681,194 tons of waste as raw material. From the calculation of the RDF volume requirement in the projection year and by applying the scenario, it is 272,478 tons. From this condition to predict the large demand for RDF originating from TPA: RDF allocation of 5% of the total Alternative Fuel (BBA) needs. All of these research results are closely related to Indonesia’s national goals on waste management and significantly contribute to the circular economy.
