Abstract: In this article, we present, with brief explanations and comments, the Romanian translations of some letters and documents donated by the Roman Catholic priest Norbert Gaschler to the Bukovina Institute in Augsburg, Germany. Norbert Gaschler (1915–2006) was a Roman Catholic cleric and a zealous researcher of the history of Bukovinian Germans and the Catholic religious life in Bukovina. From his rich collection of documents, manuscripts, and notes, we have initially chosen to translate not texts written a priori with the intention of transmitting information about historical events to posterity, but rather “everyday” texts written with the purpose (or hope) of addressing immediate needs. At this stage of documentation, we cannot guarantee that the facts and situations are described with absolute objectivity in the letters we have translated. However, we can presume that they possess real documentary value, as there is no intention of “misleading” posterity.
