Type: article
Abstract: Background. The study is relevant in the context of modern dental practice as it evaluates the effectiveness of innovative methods for treating endothelial dysfunction of periodontal tissues, particularly through the use of polarized light and nitric oxide donor. This is essential for improving treatment quality. The use of fixed orthodontic appliances can cause dysfunction of the endothelial function of periodontal tissues, necessitating the development of new treatment methods to improve patientsʼ conditions. Purpose – to investigate the effects of polarized light and nitric oxide donor on arginine levels in the saliva of patients with endothelial dysfunction of periodontal tissues undergoing treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances. Materials and Methods. The study included 30 patients divided into three groups: a control group, a group receiving treatment with polarized light, and a group treated with a nitric oxide donor. Arginine levels in saliva were measured in all patients before and after the treatment. The observation period lasted six weeks. Results. Patients in the polarized light and nitric oxide donor groups showed a significant increase in arginine levels by 25 and 30%, respectively. This indicates a positive effect of these methods on improving endothelial function in periodontal tissues. Changes in the control group were not statistically significant, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed treatment methods compared to the absence of active therapy. Conclusions. Treatment with polarized light and nitric oxide donor improves the condition of periodontal tissues, which is particularly important for patients using fixed orthodontic appliances. These methods can be recommended as supplementary therapies for restoring endothelial function.
