Year: 2025

Study design: Observational Study
In this study, a questionnaire was used to test 618 college students to explore the relationship between self-concept clarity and social anxiety and the mediating role of intolerable uncertainty and rumination. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between self-concept clarity and social anxiety, intolerance of uncertainty and rumination. Intolerable uncertainty and regurgitative thinking mediated the relationship between self-concept clarity and social anxiety, respectively, and the chain mediating effect of intolerable uncertainty and rumination was significant. The results suggest that self-concept clarity can indirectly predict college students’ social anxiety through the mediating role of intolerance of uncertainty and rumination, and the mediating effect of inability to tolerate uncertainty and rumination, respectively.
