A Case of thrombosed intracavernous carotid giant aneurysm with ipsilateral carotid thrombosis: Imaging, and management challenges
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: A 78-year-old woman presented with symptoms related to a giant thrombosed intracavernous carotid artery aneurysm (ICCA) complicated by ipsilateral carotid thrombosis, a rare and complex vascular pathology. ICCAs are uncommon aneurysms arising from the cavernous segment of the internal carotid artery (ICA), influenced by both anatomical and hemodynamic factors. The presence of thrombus within an intracranial aneurysm adds to the risk of severe complications, necessitating precise imaging evaluation using MRI and MRA to characterize the lesion and guide management. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in determining the optimal treatment strategy for complex ICCAs.
