Oxidation of low-density lipoprotein by hemoglobin causes pulmonary microvascular endothelial barrier dysfunction through lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor 1
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study demonstrates that oxidation of low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) by hemoglobin or heme disrupts the pulmonary microvascular endothelial barrier; the scavenger receptor lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor 1 mediates this response. This study reveals a novel mechanism by which the pulmonary microvascular endothelium could be targeted for therapeutic intervention during hemolytic or inflammatory pathologies.
