Abstract: The story behind the adoption of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the issue of impunity 2The issue of the safety of journalists and the related problem of impunity for perpetrators is a harsh and tragic reality, it's about the real dangers that face journalists daily, particularly those working in war zones.But this is a story of bureaucracy -of resolutions and amendments being discussed in UN meeting halls in the battle to get the United Nations to adopt a concerted plan of action to tackle these issues, which finally happened in 2012.This is the inside story of the battle -a personal one told from the perspective of the man dubbed by Guy Berger (until recently head of media freedom at UNESCO) as the father of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
