Abstract: Amid reports of hundreds of canceled research grants at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and threats to the entire medical research program at major universities, leaders in the substance use research and advocacy communities have been left to wonder how deeply any changes to the national research agenda will ultimately affect addiction treatment and prevention. The difficulty in distinguishing fact from rumor in the current environment in Washington makes this task all the more challenging.
