Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Ferrite Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor (FeASynRM) is a sustainable, efficient, and economical solution for variable speed drive applications such as electric transportation and various industrial and agricultural applications. An optimized motor design and efficient control are essential for achieving optimal performance across the entire drive range. The paper presents a comprehensive performance analysis of an optimized FeASynRM to validate its feasibility as a viable alternative for a mid-mount electric two-wheeler. The FeASynRM rotor design has been optimized and analyzed using finite element analysis. Maximum Torque Per Ampere curves for all operating speeds are plotted to illustrate the critical role of phase advance angle at high speeds, where the drive reaches its voltage limit and substantial flux weakening becomes necessary. After optimizing, the machine is manufactured, and experiments are conducted over a wide torque-speed range to validate both the design and the control strategy. The paper elaborates on the machine performance obtained through an FE-based platform and experiments performed for different operating regions, validating the motor for a mid-mount electric two-wheeler application.
