The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Personalized Learning: A Systematic Literature Review

Year: 2025
Type: review
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: This systematic literature review synthesizes current research on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on personalized learning, with a specific focus on its potential and challenges within the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the Philippines. The analysis of recent literature reveals key themes: the advancements and implementation of Adaptive Learning Platforms and Systems, the development and application of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS), the use of Personalized Learning Analytics to inform instruction, and the critical Ethical Considerations and Challenges associated with AI adoption in education. Findings indicate a significant potential for AI to enhance personalized learning by tailoring content, providing individualized feedback, and offering data-driven insights. However, the successful and equitable integration of AI necessitates careful attention to ethical implications, including data privacy and algorithmic bias, the imperative to bridge the digital divide, the crucial need for comprehensive teacher training, and the development of culturally relevant AI solutions. The review underscores the importance of future research focusing on creating culturally sensitive AI tools, addressing issues of equity and access, and conducting longitudinal studies to evaluate the long-term impact of AI on student learning outcomes. Collaborative efforts among researchers, educators, and policymakers are essential to harness AI's transformative power responsibly and effectively to create more personalized and equitable learning experiences.
