Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The annual celebration of World Family Doctor Day on May 19 serves as a reminder of the indispensable role of family doctors in delivering comprehensive health care services around the world. In 2024, the World Family Doctor day event in Nepal was held at the Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu, the foundation institute of Family Medicine in Nepal. The event held under the theme “Healthy Planet, Healthy People” highlighted the interdependence of human health and planetary well-being. Our goal was to explore the role of family doctors in mitigating health impacts of climate change by adopting sustainable health strategies to promote planetary health. In recent years, as the environmental effects of climate change are escalating, the role of family doctors in promoting and safeguarding the planetary health has been more crucial. Through family medicine organization of Nepal, the General Practice and Emergency Medicine Association of Nepal (GPEMAN) and the Spice Route Nepal, the Young Doctors Movement of WONCA, Nepalese family physicians have embraced a proactive stance in advocating for sustainable health practices to support the global pledge in improving planetary health.
