The influence of negative temperatures on the strength of solid pine sawn parallel to the lateral axis of the log
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article conducts the study of frozen wood. In particular, bending tests of wood samples cut from lumber parallel to the lateral axis are considered. Previously, one batch of samples was dried in an oven to an absolute humidity of 0–3 %, the other, was fully immersed in water for maximum absorption, i.e. mandatory presence of free and bound moisture. Then the samples were placed in special freezing units with different negative temperatures. When undergoing frozen aging, the samples were individually subjected to longitudinal bending tests. As a result of the tests, the interpretation of previous researchers is confirmed – dry frozen wood is more durable than frozen wood, previously saturated with moisture until completely or partially saturated.
