"From Classic Mainstay To Modern Superfood: An Extensive Analysis Of Millets Function In Contemporary Diets"
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Millets are nutrient-dense, climate-resilient grains that originated in Neolithic China and are now cultivated across Asia, Africa, and Europe. They are now again popular in contemporary diets because of their high fiber content, vital minerals, and gluten-free status. The goal of 2023's "International Year of Millets" is to increase both production and consumption. The historical significance of millet, its nutritional and environmental advantages, and the socioeconomic and cultural aspects that affect its usage are all examined in this paper. Millets, being high in fiber, proteins, vitamins, and antioxidants, help to maintain healthy metabolism, cardiovascular health, and blood sugar regulation. This overview also discusses how farming methods, technology, and environment affect their production, as well as initiatives to incorporate them into contemporary diets. Future food security depends on sustainable agriculture. Millets are very helpful in the control of diabetes because of their low glycemic index. Processing improvements increase the bioavailability of nutrients, which boosts their efficacy in functional foods. Reintegrating millets into regular meals can benefit sustainability and health by increasing knowledge, encouraging innovation, and putting supportive laws into place.
