Abstract: In this article we venture from the observation that no toilet ever served to found an (interior-)architectural treatise. Following the idea that the (interior-)architectural element toilet might be though a key element for that, we advance the research line Twenty-Six Toilets to Re-Figure Habitation, as developed within the research cell (Interior-)Architecture & Wicked Matters at KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture. Through detailed accounts of four characters of this alphabet, we reveal the toilet as an interior-architectural element ideal for “environmental storytelling” and “worlding.” Thinking from the toilet seat, these characters assist in reimagining interior-architecture as an ecological practice of assembling ecologies and making worlds, in this fundamentally including more-than-human agencies. As such, the characters each give substance to novel interior-architectural imageries and imaginaries which project cultures of post-humanist and new-materialist habitation.
