Abstract: In the context of gardens, the gardener is a crucial element. While in other artistic genres the required intervention may be sporadic, in the garden, especially the historic garden, constant mediation by the gardener in conjunction with nature is necessary for its conservation. Through the ongoing presence of the gardener, knowledge is constructed and values are added to the garden. Thus, the aim was to interpret the gardener's gesture in the historic garden based on the knowledge developed through their interaction with the garden. By intersecting the works of garden and philosophy scholars such as Clément and Merleau-Ponty, this knowledge was identified to characterize the creative and preservative gestures necessary for the garden's continuity over time open work.
