Pixelised Resistive Micromegas for Tracking Detectors in Future Particle Physics Experiments

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Here, we present the preliminary results of an R&D project on the resistive Micromegas technology capable of reaching stable and efficient operations up to 10 MHz/cm$^{2}$ rates. These can be achieved by a pixelised detector using readout pads of a few mm$^{2}$ areas, significantly reducing the occupancy of the readout elements. In the most recent prototypes (exploiting two Diamond-Like-Carbon foils), the resistive layers are continuous and uniform, and the charge evacuates through many dot-connections placed several mm apart. Moving towards a larger scale, a new detector, with an active area of $\sim 20\times 20$ cm$^{2}$, was made including Diamond-Like-Carbon foils with a surface resistivity of around 30 M$\Omega/\square$ in its spark protection resistive structure. An overview is reported for a few selected prototypes, with the standard $\sim 5\times 5$ cm$^{2}$ and the new $\sim 20\times 20$ cm$^{2}$ active areas, showing their gain, efficiency, and spatial resolution performance.
