Abstract: The article examines the way the Tibetan monks had been portrayed in Heinrich Harrer’s book Sieben Jahre in Tibet. Mein Leben am Hofe des Dalai Lama (in English translation known as Seven Years in Tibet). An analysis of the monks’ everyday life and their influence on the state and Tibetan society is conducted. Attention is drawn to the influence of Heinrich Harrer’s European and (to a small extend) Nazi background influencing his perception of the foreign reality of Tibet.
