Dynamic analysis of cable-stayed beam structures based on dynamic stiffness theory

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: To study the dynamic characteristics of the cable-stayed beam structures, a dynamic analysis model is established based on the dynamic stiffness theory, which considers the bending stiffness, internal damping, boundary conditions, cable sag, cable force. Based on the model, a frequency equation of the cable-stayed beam element is obtained and the dynamic characteristics are accurate analyzed by solving this equation. The accuracy of the frequency equation is verified by comparison with finite element solutions and experimental results. Finally, the effect of parameters of the cable-stayed beam are analyzed. The results show that the overall frequency of the cable-stayed beam is always close to the higher order frequency of the cable or the beam, and when the local vibration of the cable occurs, the effect of the beam on the cable vibration can be neglected. A "frequency locking zone" occurs when the structural frequency is close to the natural frequency of the beam. The parametric study shows the feasibility and relevance of the proposed model for the early-stage design of cable-stayed beam structures (masts, cranes, bridges under construction), allowing a fast and accurate result that may validate or not the preliminary design before more deep and complex dynamic analysis were performed.
