Abstract: A 61-year-old woman presented to an outside facility with shortness of breath, acute radiating pain, and nausea (IRB No. H-18095; approved February 26, 2006; written informed consent for publication was obtained from the patient). Computed tomography (CT) imaging indicated an acute type A aortic dissection with a 4.8-cm ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm. After emergency transfer to our center, repeated CT imaging revealed an acute dissection superimposed on a previously untreated chronic DeBakey type I aortic dissection (from the aortic root to the celiac artery), with rapid aortic expansion to 5.4 cm.
