Abstract: Iron death involves the imbalance of iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) on iron death in epileptic patients, and to conduct the auxiliary analysis using medical heat technology. Multiple adults with epilepsy were recruited and blood samples were collected to determine iron, malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels. Associated iron death markers were analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot (WB). Statistical analysis was also performed to assess the inhibitory effect of different AEDs on iron death. The results showed that there was a significant imbalance of iron death-related biomarkers in epilepsy patients. Different AEDs significantly inhibited the iron death process in patients, and the different effects of each drug on the iron death markers were compared, confirming the importance of medical heat techniques in assessing these changes. Studies have shown that thermal infrared image analysis assisted by medical thermal technology has potential value for monitoring the changes of iron death markers in epilepsy patients, which can support the clinical application of different antiepileptic drugs, reveal their role in regulating iron death, and lay a foundation for further clinical research.
