A Study on the Improving Smoke Exhaust Tactics at Fire Scenes
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to derive implications by analyzing fire cases, designing a questionnaire based on these findings, and conducting a survey of firefighters to derive measures to improve smoke exhaust tactics at fire scenes. The results of an analysis of the fire at the Gyeonggi Goyang Integrated Terminal and at the construction site of the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Logistics Center showed that the fire spread and caused casualties owing to smoke from the fire scene. The results of a survey on the operation of smoke exhaust tactics at fire scenes showed that, overall, there was dissatisfaction. Based on the survey results, the introduction of smoke exhaust tactics using blower pipes, modular smoke blocking curtains, and specialized training in smoke exhaust tactics were proposed as measures to improve smoke exhaust tactics in fire scenes. The smoke exhaust tactic of the blower pipe can rapidly supply fresh air to the fire scene. The modular smoke-blocking curtain can support firefighting activities such as preventing the spread of smoke and securing evacuation routes. Specialized training in smoke exhaust tactics includes professional smoke exhaust tactics, real-time decision making, and strengthening command ability.
