Abstract: Micro pneumatic actuators (MPA) are MEMS devices and mainly famous in micro fluidic applications. The design and performance of MPA are significantly influenced by the shape and structure of their components. Micro pneumatic bellows are particularly famous for their ability to generate high actuating and displacement forces, while maintaining negligible static force and eliminating backlash across a wide operational range due to their unique structure. These characteristics make them particularly suitable in applications where other actuators fail to deliver the required force, especially in harsh environments. This study introduces design of a novel stepped micro bellow actuator used in micro surgical tools and performs an analysis using software simulation supported by mathematical modeling.
